The Importer: A Trusted Link Between Producers and Roasters

The specialty coffee importer plays a key role at the heart of the value chain.Present in the country of origin, they maintain direct contact with producers: visiting farms, monitoring harvest progress, receiving samples, and selecting lots based on strict quality standards. This is a decisive moment for reflection and decision-making, where everything must align and make sense.

These encounters are crucial — this is where important choices are made, technical discussions take place, and adjustments are decided to build a sustainable commercial relationship. Trust, built on transparency, listening, and shared values, is the foundation of this collaboration.

The importer serves as a bridge between producers and roasters, with a presence both in producing regions and in consuming countries. They act as a representative of the producers on the international market, giving visibility to their coffees, showcasing their work, and facilitating the connection with the final actors in the chain: the roasters.

The Importer: A Key Player in Coffee Logistics

Beyond human relationships, the importer is also responsible for ensuring the smooth delivery of green coffee. They plan, coordinate, and monitor the entire logistics process — including ocean freight, container reception, warehousing, and final delivery to clients. This logistical role is by far the most complex, as it depends on many unpredictable variables.

In the early stages, a local team often handles the export process (customs paperwork, certifications, compliance), before the importer takes over to ensure optimal reception and storage in the destination country.

Coffee transport is a delicate and often unpredictable process.Green coffee travels thousands of kilometers, subject to fluctuations in temperature, humidity, and potential shipping delays. It is the importer’s responsibility to rigorously preserve quality from farm to warehouse, so that each coffee arrives at the roaster’s facility with its full integrity and expected profile.

What is Origen Import?

Our role: building a bridge between origin and roastery

1. A human and lasting connection with origin

At Origen Import, all our efforts focus on showcasing the quality, richness, and potential of Mexican coffees and their terroirs. We ensure an authentic and direct connection with origin, grounded in respect for the work of producers and their specific needs. We collaborate with farms that are committed to conserving, restoring, and protecting natural living ecosystems.

We take the time to understand each producer’s practices and the context in which they work.

This direct and ongoing relationship allows us to offer traceable, consistent coffees that honor the work behind every cup.Our mission is to ensure a smooth and meaningful connection between farm and roaster — with coffees that carry a story, a face, and intention.

2. A logistics platform supporting the supply chain

Thanks to our export/import support structure, we enable various Mexican producers to access international markets more easily and directly.

Our French-Mexican team manages the full logistics chain:

·      Green coffee evaluation and lot preparation

·      Export/import coordination (documents, customs, ocean freight)

·      Reception and storage of coffee in France

·      Coffee promotion

·      Direct delivery to roasters

At every step, we focus on preserving quality despite logistical or environmental challenges, ensuring each coffee arrives in optimal condition.

3. Origin trips to go deeper

We also organize immersive origin trips to Mexico, offering roasters the chance to visit producers, discover their farms, and taste their coffees at the source.

These trips are an opportunity for learning, dialogue, and human connection. They allow roasters to (re)discover the true flavor of Mexican coffee and build long-term relationships based on trust and shared values.
